The Betta SE Plus floats on your pool and skims leaves, pollen and insects off the surface. Compared with the Betta SE, it adds a wall adapter for cloudy spells and a shallower design for pools with shallow steps. Betta quotes more than 30 hours of skimming on a full charge.
Who It's For
The SE Plus suits owners whose main problem is what lands on the water: leaves, pollen and insects. Your pool should get good sun for most of the day, be no longer than 60 feet, and already have a robot or another way to keep the floor and walls clean. Of the two Betta SE models, it is the one to choose if your pool has shallow stairs where a skimmer could run aground.
Look Elsewhere If
You may want a different product if dirt on the floor or walls is the bigger problem, because the SE Plus only works on the surface. A heavily shaded pool is another reason to look elsewhere, since solar charging needs direct sun, and Betta points owners to the adapter when the sun runs short in fall and winter. And if you would like to steer or check on your skimmer from your phone, the SE Plus has no app, while the Aiper model below does.
Where To Buy
Key Features
Two Ways To Charge. This is the main change from the Betta SE, which charges from the sun alone. The solar panel refills the 4,400 mAh battery in up to 6 hours of direct sunlight, as long as the power switch is on. On cloudy days you can plug in the included adapter instead, with the switch off, and Betta says a full charge then takes 3.5 hours. The charger's light turns from red to green when the battery is full.
Shallow Water Safeguard. Betta gives the SE Plus a shallower draft than the SE, so it can work over shallow steps and around more complicated pool shapes. Betta lists a minimum water depth of 3.5 inches, while the SE needs deeper water. Built-in anti-stranding bars can be adjusted for shallow stairs, and if the skimmer does get stuck, it pauses and tries again on its own.
Running Time And Navigation. Betta quotes more than 30 hours of skimming on a full charge, so it can keep working after dark on the power it stored during the day. Ultrasonic sensors detect walls and obstacles, and a gyroscope helps it hold a course. Betta's FAQ notes that it does not map the pool, and it reverses every few minutes as part of its route.
Emptying The Basket. Debris collects in a 200-micron mesh basket under a locking cover on top. Betta's manual recommends emptying it every two to three days. To do that, lift the skimmer out flat with one hand on the front handle and one on the rear grip, switch it off, unlock the cover and lift the basket out by its handle.
Remote Control. Most of the time the SE Plus runs itself in Auto mode. A handheld remote, which takes two AAA batteries, lets you steer it to the edge when the basket needs emptying. There is no app and no cleaning schedule.

How It Compares
Betta SE Check Price at Betta
Betta SE is the model the SE Plus builds on. It shares the 200-micron basket and the quoted 30 hours, but it charges from the sun only and needs deeper water to run. If your pool gets full sun all season and has no shallow steps, the SE covers the same job without the extras.
Aiper Surfer S2 Check Price at Aiper
Aiper Surfer S2 is the choice for owners who want an app. It also pairs solar charging with a plug-in charger, and it carries a larger 5,200 mAh battery. Its basket is finer, at 150 microns, and Aiper quotes 35 hours per charge. It is a little lighter to lift out of the pool, too. Choose it if phone control or a finer basket matters most to you.
Worth Knowing
The SE Plus has no cleaning schedule to set. It floats in the pool and works whenever it has charge. Betta's manual asks you to take it out while people swim and not to run it alongside another pool cleaner. The battery is built in and cannot be replaced by the owner. The box holds the skimmer, the remote and the charging adapter, and Betta sells a storage bag as a separate bundle.
Care And Maintenance
From the Betta manual:
- Empty and rinse the basket every two to three days, and more often when leaves are falling.
- Lift the skimmer out flat with both hands, and switch it off before you unlock the cover.
- While the basket is out, rinse chemical residue off the solar panel with a hose and wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Never use a pressure washer, a scraper or a brush on the panel.
- If it moves in circles or stalls, check the propellers and the impeller for hair or string.
- Before winter, rinse it, let it dry completely and store it indoors at room temperature.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the SE Plus different from the Betta SE?
In two ways. It can charge from a wall adapter as well as the sun, and its shallower design lets it work in water as shallow as 3.5 inches.
Does it clean the pool floor?
No. It only skims the surface, so you will still need a robotic cleaner or another method for the floor and walls.
Will it keep working at night?
Yes, on the power it stored during the day. Betta says running time is shorter in fall and winter, which is when the adapter helps.
Is there an app or a schedule?
No. It runs automatically in Auto mode, and the handheld remote lets you steer it when you need to.
How often should I empty the basket?
Every two to three days, according to Betta's manual, and more often in leaf season.
Can it handle a saltwater pool?
Yes, within Betta's stated salt limit. Using it in a sea water pool voids the warranty.
Can it stay in the pool all season?
Yes, but take it out while people are swimming, in freezing weather and when you close the pool for winter.
What warranty does it have?
One year from the date of purchase. Betta offers longer cover only through its Betta Care plan.
