The Aiper Scuba X1 Pro Max cleans the floor, walls, waterline and steps of in-ground pools, and it also cleans the water surface. Aiper rates it for pools up to 3,230 square feet and quotes up to 5 hours of floor cleaning per charge. A 3-micron fine filter backs up the main filter, and the app can schedule its runs.

Who It's For

This robot suits an in-ground pool of up to 3,230 square feet or 100 feet long, in a rectangular, round or freeform shape. It fits an owner who wants floating leaves collected as well as the floor, walls and waterline scrubbed, and whose steps or raised platforms tend to collect debris. App scheduling suits you if you would rather plan runs from your phone than start each one by hand.

Look Elsewhere If

You may want a different robot if your pool is larger than 3,230 square feet or longer than 100 feet, since both are past Aiper's rating. Aiper lists a maximum incline of 15 degrees, so a steeper slope between the shallow and deep ends could be a problem. If floating debris is rare in your pool and the floor is the main job, you may not need its surface cleaning. And if you want to change modes while the robot is underwater, Aiper ties that to an optional accessory sold separately.

Key Features

Cleaning Coverage And Brushes. Aiper lists the floor, walls, waterline and water surface, and its page names raised platforms and slopes among the areas the robot covers. Aiper describes active rollers at the front and rear that scrub as the robot moves, and says it can climb over stairs. Aiper gives no step dimensions, so very narrow or unusual steps may still need a brush. If leaves tend to gather on your steps, the step cleaning could save you some of that brushing.

Filters And Suction. Aiper lists a main filter rated at 180 microns and a fine filter rated at 3 microns, and says the replaceable fine filter traps algae and fine dust. That second layer matters most if fine debris keeps settling on your pool floor. The basket lifts out through the top, so you can empty it without turning the robot over, and Aiper includes a spare fine filter in the box. Aiper rates suction at 8,500 gph.

Battery And Charging. Aiper quotes up to 5 hours of floor cleaning per charge, and a full recharge takes 4 hours. For surface cleaning on its own, Aiper gives a much longer figure, which is not the one to plan a full clean of the floor and walls around. The wireless charging dock and a retrieval hook come in the box. Aiper sells a caddy separately, and the dock sits on it so the robot can charge and be stored in the same place.

Navigation And App. Aiper describes ultrasonic mapping of the pool, paths that adjust as the robot works, and sensors that avoid obstacles and ladders. Mapping could help in a freeform pool, where a fixed back-and-forth route would meet curved walls. The app handles scheduling. For live mode changes and battery updates while the robot is underwater, Aiper describes its optional HydroComm Pro, a floating device sold separately.

How It Compares

Aiper Scuba V3 Ultra Check Price at Aiper

Aiper Scuba V3 Ultra is in the Pro tier as well, and Aiper lists surface cleaning for it too. Aiper rates it for a larger area of 3,875 square feet but a shorter pool of up to 66 feet. It runs for up to 3 hours per charge, and Aiper does not list steps for it. Both robots map the pool and offer app scheduling. Choose it if your pool's area is past 3,230 square feet and its length is within 66 feet. The X1 Pro Max is the better fit for a longer pool, or for steps that collect leaves.

Aiper Scuba X1 Check Price at Aiper

Aiper Scuba X1 sits one tier down, in the Premium tier. It cleans the floor, walls and waterline with active brushes and offers mapping and app scheduling, but Aiper does not list surface cleaning for it. Aiper rates it for pools up to 2,150 square feet or 66 feet long. It runs for up to 3 hours per charge. It could suit a smaller pool where you already net floating leaves by hand and do not need the longer run.

Worth Knowing

Aiper lists vinyl, fiberglass, tile, gunite and pebble finishes, and saltwater, mineral and ozone or UV systems as well as chlorine pools. The area and length ratings are separate limits, so a long, narrow pool can fit one and miss the other. Aiper's page gives no step dimensions, so if steps are your main reason for choosing this robot, it is worth asking Aiper whether yours fit. The warranty runs 3 years, according to Aiper.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it collect floating leaves?

Yes. Aiper lists surface cleaning and names big leaves among the debris it handles, which could cut down on netting if leaves land on the water through the day.

Can it clean steps?

Yes. Aiper says it can climb over stairs, and its page names raised platforms and slopes among the areas it covers. It gives no step dimensions, so very narrow steps may still need a brush.

How large a pool is it rated for?

Up to 3,230 square feet or 100 feet long, according to Aiper. Check both limits, since a long, narrow pool can fit one and miss the other.

How long does a charge last?

Up to 5 hours of floor cleaning, according to Aiper, and a full recharge takes 4 hours. Surface cleaning on its own runs longer, by Aiper's figures.

How does it charge?

On a wireless dock that comes in the box, so there is no cable to plug into the robot. You lift it out of the pool and set it on the dock.

Can I change modes while it is underwater?

Yes, with Aiper's optional HydroComm Pro, a floating device sold separately. Aiper says it gives live mode switching and battery updates while the robot is in the water.

Is there a filter for fine dust?

Yes. Aiper pairs the 180-micron main filter with a 3-micron fine filter, which it says traps fine dust and algae.
