The Beatbot AquaSense 2 cleans the floor, walls and waterline of pools that Beatbot rates for up to 3,230 square feet. It maps the pool with ultrasonic sensors and can be scheduled from the app, and a wireless dock charges its 10,000 mAh battery. The manual lists a runtime of up to 4 hours.

Who It's For

The AquaSense 2 suits an in-ground or above-ground pool of up to 3,230 square feet of floor area, which is the size Beatbot recommends for it. Beatbot lists rectangular, round, kidney and freeform shapes, so a curved outline is covered. It fits an owner who wants the walls and waterline cleaned as well as the floor, and who is comfortable scheduling a robot from a phone and pulling it out with a hook afterward.

Look Elsewhere If

You may want a different robot if you need the water surface skimmed, because Beatbot says the AquaSense 2 covers the floor, walls and waterline only. A pool with a floor area above 3,230 square feet is past Beatbot's recommendation, so a model with a larger rating suits it better. And if you want the app to call the robot back mid-cycle, or an AI camera, this one offers neither.

Where To Buy

Key Features

Battery And Charging. The battery holds 10,000 mAh, and the manual lists a runtime of up to 4 hours. Beatbot's page describes that figure as continuous floor cleaning, so a run that also covers the walls and waterline is shorter. A full charge takes 4 hours on a wireless dock that comes in the box with the hook. The caddy is sold separately.

Cleaning Coverage. The robot cleans the floor, walls and waterline in its Standard mode, and the manual also lists a Floor mode for the floor alone. Beatbot says it scrubs the waterline twice during each pass. It can also clean steps if they are wide enough and enough water covers them, so narrow steps, or steps with little water over them, fall outside what Beatbot describes.

Filter And Brushes. One 150-micron filter basket lifts out through the top cover. Beatbot says particles smaller than that pass through the mesh, and it offers an optional finer basket on request, which matters if fine silt is your main problem. The manual lists dual-group roller brushes, which are powered. Beatbot rates suction at 5,500 gph, the highest rate it reached in its own lab, and adds that actual results may vary.

Navigation And App. Beatbot's SonicSense system maps the pool and steers around obstacles using sensors that include two ultrasonic ones, and it has no AI camera. Wi-Fi on two bands and Bluetooth connect the robot to the app, which switches modes in or out of the water. Beatbot's series guide lists scheduling and cleaning history in the app. The robot loses its connection to the phone underwater and reconnects at the surface.

Surface Parking And Retrieval. When a run ends or the battery runs low, the robot parks at the surface. You pull it out with the supplied hook, and it drains itself as you lift it. The manual then has you set it on the charge dock once it stops dripping.

How It Compares

Dreame Z1 Pro Check Price at Dreame

Dreame Z1 Pro cleans the floor, walls and waterline, like the AquaSense 2, but covers a smaller area of 2160 square feet. Both run for 4 hours per charge. The Dreame supports pebble surfaces and step cleaning, though it lacks app scheduling. At 37.1 pounds, it is heavier to lift out. Choose it if your pool has a pebble finish and you can manage the weight.

Beatbot AquaSense Check Price on Amazon

Beatbot AquaSense sits one tier down, in the Premium tier, with a smaller rating of 2,260 square feet and a listed runtime of 3 hours. At 20.5 pounds it is lighter to carry. It also cleans the floor, walls and waterline and offers app scheduling, so the choice comes down to pool size and weight. It suits a smaller pool where a lighter robot matters more than a longer run.

Aiper Scuba X1 Pro Max Check Price at Aiper

Aiper Scuba X1 Pro Max is another brand in the Pro tier with the same rated area of 3,230 square feet. It is listed with a runtime of up to 5 hours and suction of 8,500 gph, both higher than the AquaSense 2's. Choose it for a longer run and a higher suction rating.

Worth Knowing

Beatbot gives the 3,230 square feet as a recommended pool size measured as the area of the pool bottom, not the water surface. The manual recommends running the robot separately from the circulation pump. Before each run it asks you to set the robot on level ground to calibrate, take towels and toys out of the pool, and keep people and animals clear. The AquaSense 2 has no water clarifier, so your own filtration and sanitizer still do that job. Saltwater pools are fine within the salt limit printed in the manual.

Care And Maintenance

From the Beatbot manual:

  1. Turn the robot off and unplug the charge dock before any maintenance.
  2. After each use, clear tangled hair and trapped sand from the water outlet and roller brushes, and clean the ultrasonic sensors.
  3. Open the top cover, lift out the filter basket, empty it, rinse it with water and refit it. Replace the basket or a roller brush when worn.
  4. Before storage, drain the robot, let it dry, then switch it off and unplug the dock.
  5. Store it indoors, cool and dry, out of sun, rain and frost, and check the battery at least every six months, charging it to about half.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the AquaSense 2 clean the waterline?

Yes. Beatbot lists the floor, walls and waterline as its cleaning areas, and says it scrubs the waterline twice during each pass.

Can it clean pool steps?

Only under a condition. Beatbot says it can clean steps if they are wide enough and enough water covers them.

Does it skim the water surface?

No. Beatbot says it covers the floor, walls and waterline only.

How long does a charge last?

Up to 4 hours, according to the manual. Beatbot describes that as continuous floor cleaning, so a run with walls and waterline is shorter, and a full recharge takes 4 hours.

Can I schedule it from the app?

Yes. Beatbot's series guide lists scheduling and cleaning history in the app, and the app switches modes in or out of the water.

Can the app call it back during a cycle?

No. The app cannot recall the robot in the middle of a cycle. At the end of a run or on a low battery it parks at the surface, and you pull it out with the hook.

Does it work in saltwater and above-ground pools?

Yes to both. Beatbot allows saltwater within its salt limit and lists in-ground and above-ground pools, with concrete, ceramic tile, vinyl and fiberglass surfaces.

How long is the warranty?

Three years, according to the manual.
