The Dolphin Quantum is out of stock on Amazon US, so it is not in our tables for now. We check it again each month. For a robot you can buy today, see How It Compares below.

The Dolphin Quantum cleans the floor, walls and waterline of pools up to 50 feet long, and Dolphin lists it for both inground and above-ground pools. Its two brushes are powered, and both a fine and an ultra-fine filter kit come in the box. A weekly timer runs its two-hour cycles, with no app.

Who It's For

The Quantum suits a pool of up to 50 feet, inground or above-ground, where you want the walls and the waterline scrubbed by brushes that turn on their own. You are happy with a weekly timer on the power supply instead of an app, and you would rather lift the filter out through the top than turn the robot over to empty it.

Look Elsewhere If

You may want a different robot if you would like to plan cycles from your phone, because the Quantum has no app or remote. And if you want the robot to tell you when the filter is full, keep in mind that the Quantum has no full-filter indicator.

Key Features

Powered Brushes. Dolphin marks the Quantum's two brushes as active, which means they are powered and turn on their own instead of only following the robot. Among the Dolphins in our Pro tier, that puts it ahead of the Premier and the Sigma, whose combined brushes are not driven. Its suction is rated at 4,000 gallons per hour, which is lower than those two. Which matters more depends on your pool, since a powered brush may help on walls with a clinging film, while stronger suction may help more with loose debris.

Filters In The Box. A fine filter kit is fitted, and an ultra-fine kit ships with it as an additional filter, so you can switch to the finer one when pollen or dust is in the water. The basket lifts out through the top, so the robot stays the right way up while you empty it. Dolphin gives no micron figure for either kit.

Weekly Timer. A weekly timer on the power supply repeats the two-hour cycle every day, every other day or every third day. There is no delayed start, no remote and no full-filter indicator, so checking the basket after each run is up to you. Each schedule runs for one week, after which you press the timer button again to set the next one. If you would rather schedule cycles from your phone, the Dolphin Explorer E50 is the one to look at.

Cable Swivel. An anti-tangle swivel lets the robot turn on the walls without winding the cable into knots, which matters on a corded robot that climbs. Dolphin's US spec sheet gives no cable length, though, so measure from your outlet to the far end of the pool before you buy.

Weight And Pool Shapes. At 18.3 pounds, the Quantum is lighter than the Premier or the Sigma, so lifting it out at the end of a cycle is a little easier. Maytronics lists rectangular, round, free-form and kidney shapes, in both inground and above-ground pools.

How It Compares

Dolphin Proteus DX4 Check Price on Amazon

Dolphin Proteus DX4 matches the Quantum on most counts, with powered brushes, a filter that comes out from the top, a 2-hour cycle, onboard scheduling and a 50-foot rating for inground and above-ground pools. It weighs 18.5 pounds, almost the same, and comes with a 60-foot cable. It is also listed for pebble finishes, which the Quantum is not. Take it if the Quantum's design suits your pool, or if your pool has a pebble finish.

Dolphin Wave 80 Check Price on Amazon

Dolphin Wave 80 keeps the powered brushes, the top-loading filter and onboard scheduling, and it is rated for pools up to 68 feet long, where the Quantum stops at 50. A cycle takes 3.5 hours, an hour and a half longer. At 24.6 pounds it is heavier to lift out, and it comes with an 80-foot cable and is listed for pebble finishes. Take it if your pool is longer than 50 feet.

Dolphin Explorer E50 Check Price on Amazon

Dolphin Explorer E50 brings app control to a robot that also suits above-ground pools, with the same 50-foot rating, powered brushes and a filter that loads from the top. It comes with a 60-foot cable, a figure Dolphin does not give for the Quantum. Take it if you want the Quantum's pool types with phone control on top.

Worth Knowing

The Amazon listing mentions only inground pools, while Maytronics lists above-ground pools as well, and this page follows the maker. Dolphin gives no micron figures for either filter kit. There is no full-filter indicator. Dolphin's quick start guide for the Quantum gives the care steps below, and it points to the full manual on the Maytronics website.

Care And Maintenance

From the Dolphin manual:

  1. Unplug the power supply before you clean the filter or do any other servicing, and never lift the robot out by its cable.
  2. Clean the filter basket after every cycle, before the cartridges dry out. Lift it out through the top, open the latch on the bottom lid to empty it, and hose it clean.
  3. From time to time, take the four ultra-fine panels off the outer basket, starting with panel one, rinse them and snap them back.
  4. If debris gets trapped in the impeller, unplug the power supply and clear the impeller opening.
  5. For storage, coil the cable and keep the robot somewhere cool, dry and shaded, on its caddy or upside down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Quantum clean the waterline?

Yes. Dolphin lists the floor, walls and waterline, and waterline scrubbing appears on its spec sheet.

Can it go in an above-ground pool?

Yes. Maytronics names both inground and above-ground pools, with a length limit of 50 feet.

Is there an app?

No. Scheduling runs on a built-in weekly timer, and there is no remote either. For app control with the same waterline coverage, look at the Dolphin Explorer E50.

Which filters come in the box?

Two kits. A fine filter kit is fitted, and an ultra-fine kit comes as an additional filter. Both sit in a basket that loads from the top.

How long is a cleaning cycle?

Two hours by default, and the weekly timer repeats it every day, every other day or every third day for one week.

Are the brushes powered?

Yes. Dolphin lists two active brushes, unlike the combined brushes on the Premier and the Sigma, which are not driven.

How much does it weigh?

It weighs 18.3 pounds, which is lighter than the Premier and the Sigma.

What warranty does it carry?

Two years in the US, according to Dolphin's spec table.
