The Wybot S2 Solar cleans the floor, walls and waterline of inground pools up to 3,229 square feet. It charges on a solar-powered dock in the pool. The manual says it returns there after cleaning or when the battery runs low, and app scheduling lets you choose when cleaning starts.

Who It's For

It suits an inground pool where you want the walls and waterline cleaned along with the floor, and you want to set cleaning times through your phone. Compatible layouts include rectangular, round and freeform pools, including sloped floors. The manual names vinyl, gunite and tile surfaces. With the dock, you do not carry the robot to a charger after each run.

Look Elsewhere If

You may want a different robot if a powered brush is a priority, because its brushes are passive. Wybot also says it cannot manage water quality or perform ultra-fine filtration. A shaded dock limits the solar setup, which the manual says charges most effectively in direct sunlight without cloud cover. Wybot recommends using the adapter for frequent cleaning of heavily soiled pools, when the solar dock may not supply enough energy.

Where To Buy

Key Features

Docking And Charging. Wybot gives a runtime of up to 2.5 hours from the 5,200 mAh battery. The manual describes inductive charging at the underwater dock as well as direct charging through a DC adapter. The stated charging time of 3 hours applies to DC charging. The robot's upper lights turn solid green when charging is complete.

Cleaning Modes. You can choose floor cleaning when debris has settled there, or select wall and waterline cleaning when those areas need attention. The manual also describes a combined mode that cleans the walls before the floor. A mode toggle on the robot gives you another way to select cleaning, and it remembers the previous mode after restarting.

App Controls. The manual's weekly scheduling lets you set cleaning times and modes. Manual Mode lets you steer the robot toward a sand or leaf pile. Area Cleaning is a separate mode that follows a concentrated cleaning pattern within a selected area. The dashboard shows battery level and underwater signal strength.

Filter Access. The main basket is rated at 180 microns and lifts out through the top, so you can reach it without turning the cleaner over. The manual describes an auxiliary foam filter for fine particles and recommends it for floor cleaning. The basket and foam are removable. The manual says to install the filter basket before starting a cleaning cycle.

Navigation And Traction. It follows patterned paths on tracks and is rated to work on inclines. It has a flow rate of 3,962 gph. The manual provides gyroscope calibration through the app if its path becomes irregular. The app also supports firmware updates, and Wybot recommends keeping both the robot and dock updated.

How It Compares

Wybot S2 Get the deal at Wybot

Wybot S2 is cordless with no solar dock, sits in the Premium tier and runs for up to 3.5 hours. It covers the same area and cleaning zones as the S2 Solar, so choose it if a longer run matters more to you than dock charging and you are happy to lift the robot out and plug it in after each clean.

Wybot S2 Solar Vision Get the deal at Wybot

Wybot S2 Solar Vision adds a camera and advanced mapping with the same runtime and weight, so choose it if you want camera-assisted navigation while keeping the same cleaning time between charges and the same weight to lift.

Wybot M1 Check Price on Amazon

Wybot M1 covers up to 4,305 square feet and also has app scheduling, which suits an owner with a larger pool who still wants to set cleaning times from a phone. Its runtime reaches 5 hours and it weighs 24.3 pounds, so choose it for longer sessions if you can manage the extra weight when lifting it out of the pool.

Worth Knowing

The manual calls for a flat area of deck with no nearby steps or ladders, and an undamaged wall surface where the dock attaches. It also says to keep the space beneath the dock clear of steps, seats and lights. In an irregular pool, an open position with a view across the water helps the signal. Pair the app while the cleaner is charging on the dock. The solar kit also has a home button that calls the cleaner back to its station.

Care And Maintenance

From the Wybot manual:

  1. Disconnect the power before maintenance. Lift the cleaner by its handle and switch it off before opening the cover.
  2. Press the filter cover handle, lift the lid and remove the basket and auxiliary foam.
  3. After every use, empty the debris and rinse both filters with clean water. Refit them and close the cover.
  4. Before storage, dry the cleaner completely and fully charge the battery.
  5. Store it somewhere cool and ventilated, away from sunlight, heat and frost. Keep pressure off the solar kit and charge the cleaner every three months during storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How large a pool can it clean?

Up to 3,229 square feet. It supports rectangular, round and freeform inground pools, so an irregular outline alone does not rule it out.

How long does it clean between charges?

Up to 2.5 hours. You can select floor cleaning through the app or use a mode that includes the walls and waterline.

Can it climb steps?

Yes. The manual says it can climb steps and pass through shallow areas, although those obstacles may change the cleaning path it follows.

Does it work in saltwater?

Yes. Saltwater and chlorine pools are both compatible. The manual sets maximum chlorine and salt levels for operation.

Can I control it while it is underwater?

Yes. The manual says commands use underwater acoustic signals, so steering can respond with a slight delay. Use steady taps instead of repeated rapid presses.

How much does the robot weigh?

18.7 pounds. That is the cleaner's weight, so the solar kit and dock are separate equipment you also need space to install.

What warranty does it have?

Two years, according to Wybot. The manual restricts coverage to the original buyer and requires an order record for a claim or repair.

Can I use the foam for every clean?

No. The manual advises leaving it out in heavily dusty water and removing it if wall climbing suffers while it is installed.
