The Dolphin Advantage scrubs pool floors and walls with an active brush, and Dolphin rates it for inground and above-ground pools up to 33 feet long. A 50-foot cable supplies power throughout the two-hour cycle. A top-access filter basket lets you remove debris without turning the cleaner over.

Who It's For

The Advantage suits you if your inground or above-ground pool needs regular floor and wall scrubbing. Its supported surfaces include vinyl, gunite, fiberglass, tile and pebble, so it covers several common pool finishes. It also suits an owner who prefers a corded cleaner and wants to avoid charging between runs, especially when the pool needs cleaning frequently during swimming season. The Advantage also supports both hard-wall and soft-wall construction. Its tracked drive handles movement across those finishes.

Look Elsewhere If

You may want a different robot if you want it to scrub the waterline, because the Advantage cleans the floor and walls and leaves that band to you. Dolphin's product page also says there is no phone app, so you cannot control it from indoors through your phone or start cleaning remotely while you are away from home. It has no remote control and no delayed start.

Where To Buy

Key Features

Active Brush And Suction. The Advantage uses an active brush to scrub the pool surface as it travels, and Dolphin rates suction at 4,000 gph. The brush is powered, so it scrubs as the cleaner moves. Its supported finishes include vinyl, gunite, fiberglass, tile and pebble, so you can use that active scrubbing on any of those surfaces.

Navigation And Slopes. Dolphin calls its navigation system CleverClean, and the Advantage uses advanced mapping with a tracked drive. It can handle floor slopes of up to 15 degrees. The tracks move the cleaner across the bottom and up the walls while the brush works against the surface. The Advantage supports both hard-wall and soft-wall construction, including pools with vinyl walls.

Cable And Power. The 50-foot cable connects the Advantage to its power supply while it cleans. There is no battery recharge between runs, so you can start another cycle without waiting for charging. Dolphin rates it for a pool length of 33 feet, even though the cable is longer. Some cable must reach from the power supply to the water before it can follow the robot around the pool.

Pool Size And Shape. Dolphin's spec table lists inground and above-ground pools up to 33 feet long, in rectangular and round shapes. Free-form pools are not on Dolphin's list, so an owner with a curved pool may want to check with Dolphin first. For a round pool, use its diameter when matching it to that length limit.

Filter Access And Debris. Dolphin describes an easy-access, top-load basket with a fine filter kit. You can reach the collected debris without turning the robot upside down. The Advantage handles fine, medium and large debris. For microscopic particles, it needs an ultra-fine filter, so the filter fitted to the cleaner matters if fine sediment is your main complaint. Dolphin offers ultra-fine baskets and filter panels among the Advantage's add-on accessories. These are separate from the fine filter kit described for the cleaner.

How It Compares

Dolphin Nautilus CC Check Price on Amazon

Dolphin Nautilus CC is close to the Advantage on paper, with an active brush, floor-and-wall coverage and the same 33-foot pool limit, so availability may help you choose between them. Both have a two-hour cycle and weigh 14.8 pounds, which leaves little difference in their stated cleaning scope or the weight you carry out to the pool.

Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus Check Price on Amazon

Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus adds app scheduling and extends the pool rating to 40 feet, so choose it if you want phone control or have a longer pool. It trades the Advantage's active scrubbing for passive brushes and weighs 20.8 pounds, a practical difference if you will be carrying the cleaner between a storage area and the pool after each use.

Polaris F9450 Sport Check Price on Amazon

Polaris F9450 Sport adds waterline cleaning and reaches pools up to 50 feet long, which makes it the alternative for a larger pool with dirt around the surface. Its 60-foot cable reaches farther than the Advantage's cable, and its 2.5-hour cycle suits an owner who wants that wider cleaning coverage and accepts a longer run each time.

Worth Knowing

Dolphin's product page says the Advantage has no anti-tangling swivel on its cable. If the cable twists as the robot changes direction, you will need to straighten it yourself. There is also no full-filter indicator, so you check the basket directly rather than waiting for a warning. The warranty lasts two years. The Advantage is also compatible with mineral-water systems and pools treated with ozone or UV. Dolphin also offers a universal caddy as an add-on accessory for the Advantage, along with caddy covers and replacement filter baskets.

Care And Maintenance

From the Dolphin manual:

  1. Switch off and unplug the power supply before you lift the cleaner out or open it for cleaning, as the manual directs.
  2. Lift by the handle, never the cable, and let it drain. Empty and hose the basket before debris dries.
  3. Monthly, if your basket has filter panels, hose and refit them, insert the clean basket and close the filter cover.
  4. If you see impeller debris, switch off and unplug the supply, clear it and refit the impeller cover.
  5. Before off-season storage, drain the cleaner, clean the basket and any panels and refit them. Roll the cable without kinks. Store protected from sun, rain and frost.

Frequently Asked Questions

How large a pool can it clean?

Up to 33 feet long. Its supported layouts include rectangular and round pools, so the pool does not need straight sides throughout. Both inground and above-ground pools are supported within that length limit.

How long does each clean take?

Two hours per cycle. It stays connected to its power supply throughout the run, and there is no charging break to wait through before another clean.

Does it scrub the walls?

Yes. The Advantage cleans walls as well as the floor with its active brush. You do not need a separate wall-cleaning run after it finishes the bottom.

How much does it weigh?

14.8 pounds. You will need to carry that weight between the pool and storage, as well as gather its power cable when putting the cleaner away.

Can it work in a saltwater pool?

Yes. The Advantage supports saltwater and chlorine-treated pools. It also works with mineral-water systems and with ozone or UV treatment. It must stay within the water limits in Dolphin's manual.

Will it work on vinyl and tile?

Yes. Vinyl and tile are supported, along with gunite, fiberglass and pebble. That includes a pool with different supported finishes on its floor and walls.

Does it need an ultra-fine filter?

For microscopic debris, yes. Its ordinary debris coverage includes fine, medium and large material. Dolphin offers ultra-fine debris filter baskets and panels as add-on accessories.
